Recreational Gymnastic Classes

An 8 week course for children aged 4½ to 14 Years Recreational Gymnastic Courses are a structured and fun way to learn gymnastic skills. The classes are designed to be stimulating and enjoyable for children whilst teaching the elements needed for gymnastic development. The classes operate around an award scheme aimed at giving direction and purpose for the children and are designed to help progression whilst giving a sense of achievement. The penultimate week of each course is “Test Week” – testing is done in a very informal and non-competitive manner. Children who can correctly demonstrate particular elements taught during the course will “Pass” the level on which they have been working and can then progress through the award levels by enrolling for subsequent terms. The entry level award is Grade 6 progressing to Grade 1, then on to Bronze, Silver and Gold awards. Children who are working on Grades 6, 5, 4 and 3 all train in a mixed ability session with each group then split down according to which grade the child is working on. Children working on Grades 2 and 1 train at a different time as these are more technical and require a different format of teaching. Once children have passed Grade 1 they can then progress to the Bronze, Silver and Gold awards, these sessions being for 2 hours per week and are much more technical and routine based.
